Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) lays a foundation for long-term positive effects in children, adults, and communities. People with robust social-emotional skills are better equipped to handle everyday challenges and benefit academically, professionally, and socially.
Northwestern University's School of Education and Social Policy offers The Teaching Certificate: The Science of Social and Emotional Learning*, providing the tools to effectively plan classroom experiences that foster self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship-building, and decision-making through an equitable and trauma-informed approach. This online short course provides an in-depth understanding of SEL's key concepts, helping you learn how to incorporate SEL techniques in your educational context, promoting well-being and improved social awareness while reducing stress, anxiety, and trauma.
Over six weeks, you will develop a plan to integrate SEL techniques into your teaching practices and work towards receiving a certificate of completion from a highly-ranked education school.

About the certificate
Delve into the foundational elements of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), and earn an official certificate of completion from Northwestern University.
Assessment is continuous and based on a series of practical assignments completed online. In order to be issued with your digital certificate, you’ll need to meet the requirements outlined in the course handbook. The handbook will be made available to you as soon as you begin the course.
