How do you depict complicated systems and steps?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When implemented effectively, business process modeling can transform <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.getsmarter.com\/blog\/project-management-how-to-develop-a-strategic-plan\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">project management<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> challenges into opportunities for shared understanding, innovation, and success.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fundamentally, business process modeling involves identifying, defining, and representing a process in its entirety, in order to aid communication of that process.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The visual references and diagrams used in modeling systems can help you:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identify tasks that are redundant and remove them<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spot bottlenecks in the process and improve process efficiency by eliminating them<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Identically repeat processes and train new staff to do so<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are several techniques in business process modeling:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>1. Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) is the global standard for modeling business processes. It is composed of a system of graphical notations used to visualize end-to-end tasks and workflows. Designed for stakeholders who manage and design business processes, BPMN emphasizes a combination of ease-of-use and specificity to meet the different needs of global organizations.<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1<\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n<p><b>Strengths:<\/b><sup><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><\/sup><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Individual organizations don\u2019t need to invent their own visual system<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A standardized language helps close communication gaps between stakeholders<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Includes a library of process flows and rules to train new employees on<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can be created using online tools like LucidChart and Visio<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Limitations:<\/b><sup><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3<\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The highly rigid framework can make process innovation more complicated<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Challenging for first-time users to read<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">May not be flexible for certain dynamic and non-sequential processes<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BPMN symbols fall into the following basic categories:<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4<\/span><\/sup><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Flow objects<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The main elements that define a process are broken into three types of objects:<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Events <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are displayed inside circles. These are things that \u201chappen\u201d during the course of a process and usually have a cause and impact.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Activities <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fit into rectangular boxes. This represents the work performed within a process.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Gateways<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are represented as diamond shapes. These are used to control how the process flows and either converges or diverges.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Connecting objects.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Show how tasks are connected and in what sequence they occur.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Sequence flows<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are displayed as solid lines. These are any steps that change the data and produce an output.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Data stores<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are visualized using open-ended rectangles. These are files or repositories that hold information.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Data flow<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is represented via arrows.
