Summary of Job:

This person is responsible for all financial processes over revenue, and financial controls over all expenses and payments, including allocated and non-cash costs. S/he is responsible for defining short course financial and accounting policies, tax and legal structures, Sarbanes Oxley compliance and as well as all NASDAQ and SEC reporting for Short Courses. S/he will be the point of contact for SVP/VP levels in HQ when dealing with short course financial matters, and is responsible for delivering the short course quarterly and annual 10-Q and 10-K financial statements. S/he, together with the team of leaders, is responsible for leading, directing, motivating and managing the finance team of over 40 staff members, and is responsible for their individual growth and development. Additionally, this role will also be responsible for overseeing the development and maintenance of the 33,000 sqft interim space and 275,000 sqft property development.

Key Role and Responsibilities: 

  • In collaboration with HQ and local SLT leadership in Cape Town, define the financial system landscape, the financial control processes, the team skills sets required and the financial operations vision for the team, to enable them to deliver financial information in line with group requirements for quality and timelines.

  • Lead the development of the optimised financial accounting policies to support the market guidance, and design the optimised group structure, for tax, regulatory compliance, SOX compliance and accounting, and ensure the function is compliant at all times with all regulatory requirements.

  • Manage stakeholder communications with all stakeholders, including management and team level, for financial results, changes in policy, equity grants and legal requirements, etc. 

  • Lead the Finance Tech Implementation strategy to improve the conversion rate of leads to students through optimised payment gateways, as well as in the productivity of the finance team while maintaining world leading customer service levels, specifically addressing the B2C and Enterprise customer payment journeys. 

  • Lead the vision for the Interim Space and the property development to ensure the culture of the team remains in place, while ensuring the budget is met.

 Education and Experience:

  • CA(SA) or equivalent with Big Four articles experience (Deloitte, PwC, KPMG or EY).

  • 10+ years of experience in a senior management level.

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in a finance team.

  • Experience in a US listed environment, including SOX experience.

  • Great communication skills.

  • Ability to build an argument for a specific outcome, and influence other stakeholders to align with the argument.

Physical Requirements

Extensive computer use will be required.
