In order to understand search engine optimisation, we need to understand how search engines work. For example, looking at Google: Google is a service that wants to provide the most authoritative result based on a user’s search query. In order to provide the most authoritative result, it looks at its algorithm. Does your website contextually match the search query? Search engine optimisation effectively optimises your page content so that it matches the user’s contextual query. Google is all about context.
