Meet Katinka Krugell | GetSmarter Notable Achiever

In recognition of students who stand out from the crowd, GetSmarter’s Notable Achievers campaign highlights a top-performing student each week.

Katinka Krugell, a Desktop Publishing (DTP) Operator, is currently studying the University of Cape Town Digital Marketing online short course and has been chosen as our Notable Achiever for maintaining a high standard throughout the course.

Her Success Manager nominated Katinka due to her consistent performance on the course despite the occurrence of important life events. Katinka got married and went on honeymoon during her course, but still managed to maintain a high standard of assignment submissions.

Why did you decide to take this course?

Our company gave us the opportunity to sign up and I was eager to explore digital marketing, having worked with traditional media for so long.

What is it like learning online with GetSmarter?

It is wonderful being exposed to a wealth of course material from the comfort of my own home.

What were your concerns before enrolling on the UCT Digital Marketing course, and how were these alleviated?

I was concerned about being able to navigate my way around the online campus. However, with the help of a detailed orientation module and the support of my Success Manager, Avanti Gajoo, it was a breeze.

How do you plan to use the skills you learnt on this course in your career?

I am super excited to incorporate everything I have learnt into my current role which is evolving to include digital marketing tactics.

What does it mean to you to earn a UCT certificate?

It will add a new level of esteem to my CV.

Will you be hanging it up?

No, actually. I would like to let my newly developed skillset do the talking.

What is one of your favourite articles on the GetSmarter Career Advice blog?

I love the articles on career strategy. Learning about the constant changes in the digital marketing landscape reminded me that my career will need to evolve too.

What was your favourite module in the course?

The designer in me was sold by the time we started Module 2: ‘Web design and development’.

If you could study another GetSmarter online short course in the future which one would you choose?

I’d like to do the UCT Web Design online short course next.

I keep reminding myself to be brave and that I have what it takes to master a new skill. The truth is we all have what it takes!
