As the amount of data in the world grows exponentially, the demand for executives with the skills and knowledge to lead a data-driven organization increases.1

This program aims to teach managers and executives the strategic, technical, and managerial skills necessary to integrate data analytics into an organization.

Drawing on case studies from the sports industry, which has led the way in performance analytics, you will learn how to use data in your organization for improved decision making, goal setting, identification of challenges, selection of appropriate technologies, structuring of teams, communication, and evaluation of the efficacy of an analytics strategy.

Guided by MIT faculty and industry thought leaders, this program helps you navigate the process of data transformation in your business or organization, from concept to implementation.

Ben Shields

Senior Lecturer, Managerial Communication

Ben Shields is a senior lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He studies technological change through the lens of sports. His current research explores how people and organizations use data analytics to inform strategy and decision making. At MIT Sloan he teaches courses on sports management and analytics, leadership communication, and social media. He is the author or co-author of three books, The Sports Strategist: Developing Leaders for a High Performance Industry (Oxford University Press, 2015), The Elusive Fan: Reinventing Sports in a Crowded Marketplace (McGraw-Hill, 2006), and Social Media Management: Persuasion in Networked Culture (Oxford University Press, 2016). He is the co-host of ‘Counterpoints’, the sports analytics podcast from the MIT Sloan Management Review. He is the faculty director of the Formula 1 Extreme Innovation Series with MIT Sloan Executive Education. Prior to MIT, he was the director of Social Media at ESPN. He holds a PhD in Media, Technology, and Society from Northwestern University, where he wrote his doctoral dissertation on fantasy sports.
