Introduction

As consumers become more aware of how their data is being used, companies will need to invest in new resources to better meet the demands for data privacy. For businesses intent on keeping abreast of regulations, preparedness is the best course of action.

Gain an in-depth understanding of U.S. privacy laws with the Privacy Law and Data Protection online short course from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. Over six weeks you will investigate privacy and data legislation in order to better protect data, mitigate risks and remain compliant.

Exploring the differences between private and public data, you will gain a thorough understanding of the laws associated with each. You will also investigate medical privacy laws, such as Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), to determine their effect on privacy regulations in business. By the end of the course you will have designed a privacy law road map that can be used in your organization to help create better privacy policies.
